Hello and welcome to my blog. My name is Dirk and this blog will serve to fulfill requirements for Arcadia’s ED677 course. Now that the initial painful process of creating this blog is over, I might attempt to creatively and functionally enhance it when I need a good dose of frustration.
Anyway, I am semi-retired and currently my avocation is teaching the English language, principally online and recently, within a classroom environment. I have online adult students who are located around the globe with varying degrees of English language proficiencies. Additionally, I volunteer teach at a literacy academy for immigrant adults in Philadelphia – my students cover the gamut from the most basic English speakers – who in some cases are barely literate in their own language – to advanced students.
My passions are teaching English, learning languages, international politics, the outdoors, and bicycling. Currently I am enrolled in TESOL graduate studies at Arcadia.
